There are even a number of vinyl-safe dark colors available from Sherwin Williams that would work if you wanted to paint your vinyl siding a darker color than the one you currently have.
When I was looking at the vinyl safe paint colors by Sherwin Williams, I was surprised by the lack of white paint color options. So, I called my local Sherwin Williams store and the paint rep explained that you can actually use any of their white paint colors for the vinyl safe option!

The day I heard about best paint for vinyl siding, I got one of my favorite white paint colors , Alabaster! Rather than go with a semi-gloss, we chose a satin sheen. It’s not super shiny but still cleanable. The paint rep recommended using Resilience, because it was the most affordable compared to the other paint lines of Sherwin Williams for vinyl siding paint. The gallon was less than $45 for a gallon at their sale, so that was what we went with.

Materials Needed For House siding painting
- Scrub Brushes/Sponges or Pressure Washer
- Painters tape
- Vinyl safe paint
- Paint Brush
- Cleaner
- Microfiber small paint roller or Paint Sprayer
We used a paint brush and roller for the vinyl siding we installed. If you’re doing a smaller area, a paint brush would work as well. Using a paint sprayer may make this process easier if you are painting a large area or your entire house. Additionally, I would use a pressure washer for the prep cleaning of a larger area.
How To Paint Vinyl Siding
1. Pressure washing the vinyl siding
Cleaning your surface is just as important as painting a tile floor, a bathroom vanity, or any other paint job.
Cleaning products should be something that doesn’t leave a residue. Krud Kutter worked great for painting our laminate kitchen cabinets, so we used it.
Please follow the instruction manual on your pressure washer if you are using one.
To prepare the cleaner, follow the instructions on the label depending upon how much you need and also how to use it. Approximately a cup of Krud Kutter and about a gallon of water were added.
With the cleaner mix, clean the vinyl siding. Make your way down the siding starting at the very top.
The vinyl siding should be wiped down with water after cleaning it with the mix. With a sponge and water, wipe the vinyl siding clean.
2. Prep for painting vinyl siding
Use painters tape and tape off any areas that need to be protected from paint, including the walls, floor, windows, etc.
Brandon is really good a cutting in (he use to work for a paint company in college), so we only needed to use a little bit of tape in hard to reach areas.
Also, if you’re using a paint sprayer, tape plastic over any areas you need to protect from the sprayer, like windows or doors.
3. Use paint and a brush to cut in hard to reach areas
Start by cutting in any hard to reach areas, including the floor or ceiling (if applicable) with a paint brush.
Allow the first cut coat to dry and then apply a second or third coat if needed. We ended up needing three coats of white paint for our cutting in coats. After cutting in with paint brush in siding.
4. Final Stage : Painting the siding
